Welcome to ETS Wales

ETS Wales professionally endorses programmes of training for Youth Workers to ensure they are of a suitably high quality, relevant to the needs of employers, youth workers themselves and the young people they work with. It undertakes this work on behalf of the Joint Negotiating Committee for Youth & Community Workers (JNC).

Separately, ETS Wales supports workforce development through a range of training, professional learning and related initiatives.

Youth Work Qualifications

It is important to check that any youth work training leads to JNC recognition as this is valid across the UK and Ireland. Voluntary organisations (eg the Guides or Scouts) may offer their own brand training which is transferable within their organisation.

Potential students should be aware that youth work typically will involve evening and weekend work and that training will involve placements at these times.

Workforce Development

ETS coordinates workforce development for the Youth Work sector on behalf of the Welsh Government, ensuring practitioners are equipped with the skills, qualifications, and professional learning opportunities they need to support young people across Wales.

Through our website, Youth Work practitioners can access a wide range of training, accredited qualifications, and development resources designed to strengthen practice, build confidence, and promote high standards across the sector. Get Involved

The principle of peer review underpins the work of ETS Wales. This enables both the training and the endorsement process to have credibility and encourages collective responsibility and accountability for professional recognition. You can work with ETS Wales by volunteering to take part in the panels that visit institutions and organisations to endorse their work, or by being nominated to or volunteering for any sub-groups that are established (for example, to write or refresh guidelines).
