Young Person's Application to Workforce Development Participation Group

Introduction

The youth work Workforce Development Participation Group (WDPG) is looking for two young people to join it. Education Training Standards (ETS) Wales is facilitating this group and the application process.

We are particularly interested in young people aged 18-25 who are completing, or have recently completed:

Background

Welsh Government set up the Interim Youth Work Board (IYWB) who have worked with the sector to develop a Youth Work Strategy for Wales. The Strategy lists five aims that the IYWB intends should form the basis of its vision for the future of youth work in Wales. These aims are:

1.  Young people are thriving.

2.  Youth work is accessible and inclusive.

3.  Voluntary and paid professional youth work staff are supported throughout their careers to improve their practice.

4.  Youth work is valued and understood.

5.  A sustainable model for youth work delivery.

In order to ensure that the Strategy becomes more than simply words on paper the IYWB has now established four Strategy Participation Groups (SPGs) to take forward the work required to deliver on the Strategy’s key commitments and aims.

ETS Wales is leading on the group to take forward Strategy Aim 3 and has set up the Workforce Development Participation Group (WDPG).

What are the WDPG’s priorities?

It is very early days for the WDPG, but we have already identified that our workplan needs to focus on four key priorities. In order of importance these are:

The IYWB has made a clear promise to young people that they will be involved directly in taking forward the Strategy. Consequently the WDPG is seeking now to recruit two young people to help us in our work and to ensure that we keep the interests of young people in Wales at the heart of what we do.

We encourage you to apply. If you are successful in your application we will discuss with you the support you may need to become fully involved in the work of the group.
